The history of Wynberg

Situated in the Southern Suburbs of Cape Town, Wynberg certainly embraces the serenity of its natural surroundings and remains a popular spot for families to enjoy a variety of peaceful yet magical outings. Wynberg is easily accessible from Cape Town and Cape Town International Airport via the M3 and N2 roads. It is only 15km from the city centre and 22km from the airport. In 1683, the halfway point of the wagon route between Cape Town and Simon's town was the farm, De Oude Wijnberg. In 1795 the British developed this area into a garrison town, stationing a large number of soldiers in the area. As Wynberg was the official half way point between Table Bay and False Bay it soon became a viable option for farmers to sell their produce to the soldiers, etc, than travelling all the way to the Cape Town Market.
